Item-The last bite of an In N Out Burger
This bit is borrowed from the serious post below, because Cookie Jesus knows, no one will read it. The last bite of juicy In-N-Out burger, with the combination of crispy griddle-toasted bun, and cool lettuce and tomato with just the right amount of special sauce-is in fact even better than the first*. The absolute key here is the buttered bun that is machine-sliced so perfectly flat, and thrown on the griddle it until browned and toasty with that crispy ring around the outside that happens when you make pancakes at home but never happens at IHOP. This crispness contrasts with the special sauce, especially the saucy pickle, if any of it made it this far and juice from the burger, the still cool lettuce and actually decent tomato. I can only compare it to the last bite of a well packed ice cream cone where ice cream has lasted until the very end. Magnificent.

*That bite looks exactly like this one, but on the other side.

I agree that this is the "money bite". On a recent trip to San Francisco, an I&O first-timer was introduced to the burger with the knowledge that the last bite would be worth savouring. Despite said scientist's normal aversion to fast-food burgers, he not only consumed said burger with fervour, but also agreed about the last bite. They are delicious!
Uncanny, where have you been?
It really is the perfectly toasted bun that makes the bite. I wish my toaster had an In N Out setting.
Take off the pink-ish sauce and it's a winner. Some cheese would be nice too.
After all, I only get to eat there occasionally.
It's still a fast food burger but it is at least a little higher up the chain.
If you ever venture to the Midwest, you should check out Culver's ButterBurger. That answers the question of why we all have a few extra pounds.
You just had Geenie Cola at "Culver's..." Her old house was surrounded by them!
Cheese is the enemy. That was the only picture of an In N Out that I could find that was not a disgusting Double Double.
Fulsom, i think I heart you...
Please don't toture me with delicious Culver references. Are you also from various parts of the Midwest that you would know what Cop's frozen custard tasted like?
I think I had Copp's once. However, my origin is much nearer to the equally legendary Ted Drewes.
That does look really good, though I still look severely askance at any food item featuring "special sauce".
damnit!
i USED to live 4 miles from one.
now, well, my Zip code starts with 0.
as a vegetarian, i rarely eat fast food. having said that, i HATE in-and-out: their fries suck and they have no shakes. NO SHAKES. fuck george bush: why does in-and-out burger hate america?
HEre's what's weird, their fries are good if you eat them with in 60 seconds of them coming out of the oil. I'm serious, their decay curve is astonishing. My friend tried to convince me that had awesome shakes, and I was all confused- because I know they don't have shakes. He must have been smoking something.
Oh pr, you break my heart with you vegetarian ways. I admit that I am a meat addict. It's totally wrong in so many ways.
i'll take your word on that cos i'm never going in that place ever again.
going veggie was like a hidden schizophrenia coming to fruition, an identity crisis to the extreme, what with me being half mexican (we've never met a meat we didn't like) and a smiths fan (meat is murder).
but you wanna know what's really good? take a wendy's frostie and dip the french fries in them.
Dude, I'm all over that- did it with the first frosty I ever had, and nobody needed to tell me.
THAT'S FUCKING WEIRD.
Is it the urge to dip, coupled with a desire to go beyond ketchup? Is it for the sweet and salty?
You should write something up for the Delish or Disgust about that, because I will back you up, I think we are going to get a shitload of controversy about that one. I need pix of that- maybe I will have to do a field trip to wendy's.
If you aer half-mexican how can you live without carnitas or related dishes? I love how "Once Upon a Time In Mexico" was all about Cochinita Pibil.
baby, i've got one word for you:
soyrizo.
that's right - soyrizo.
that cochinito pibil thing was GREAT. especially with the director doing the video recipe in the extras.
and i'm all over the write-up - consider it done. this weekend. i need me a frostie. what makes the whole thing even more trippy is the fact that i absolutely HATE chocolate ice cream.
it just bends the mind, it does.
The best thing in the world is to ask the people at Wendy's "what flavors of Frosty are there?"- watch them freak out.
Frosty's are amazing because they are not overpowering, it's barely chocolate. That;s what makes them great. A frosty is absolutely perfect for what it is.
If you ever venture to the Midwest, you should check out Culver's ButterBurger
They're good for mass produced fast food fare, but they are nowhere near the same league as In-N-Out. It's simply not even worth comparing.
Also, Steak and Shake would be OK if it didn't take a million years for them to make one.
